Obituary of Marlene Chappell Marlene F. Chappell, formerly of Camillus, passed away January 9, 2019 at the Nottingham in Jamesville. Born July 10, 1935 to Emiel J. Floring and Frieda Presser Floring, Marlene spent most of her life in the Syracuse area. She graduated from Nottingham High School in 1953 and Syracuse University in 1957 earning a BFA in Fashion Illustration with a minor in sculpture.

Marlene married Winthrop M. Chappell, Sr. in 1957 and worked in the Fashion Illustration field until having children, starting in 1959. Upon the death of her husband in 1970, Marlene returned to the work force doing various jobs, including interior decorating for Bernard’s and Ethan Allen, before becoming an Insurance Consultant for Prudential for over 20 years. During retirement Marlene became part of the choir for DeWitt Community Church, which she had been a member of since childhood.

Marlene loved art, music, singing, her pets, her summer cottage at Sackets Harbor and most of all her family. Marlene is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Chappell (John Fitzsimmons), Leslie (Jeremy) Waltzer and Kimberly (Brian) Brickley; her son, Winthrop (Nancy) Chappell, Jr.; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was recently predeceased by her grandson, Stephen Gudknecht.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 2 at 11 am at DeWitt Community Church in the Miller Commons Room (located on the lower level of the church), 3600 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt. A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11 am. A reception will follow the service immediately.

Private interment will be in Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn. Contributions in her memory can be made to Multiple Sclerosis, MS Resourch of CNY, PO Box 237, East Syracuse, NY 13057. Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, DeWitt.
