Mitter, 87, died peacefully at University Hospital on December 27, with family by his side. Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late L. Frank and Barbara Mitter. He was a graduate of the La Salle Institute and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Mr. Mitter was a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army, serving in Germany for two years. He was a design engineer at G.E. of Schnectady before moving to Liverpool in 1974. He was employed at Young and Franklin Inc. of Liverpool as a Vice President and member of the Board of Directors for 42 years.

He was instrumental in the success of the company and was loved and respected by all. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Rensselaer Newman Foundation at R.P.I. Mr. Mitter was predeceased by his first wife the former Regina Bloomfield and his sisters, Marie Benson and Helena Wright.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Kopp Mitter; sons, Peter H. Kopp (Leslie) of Syracuse, Dr. Richard F. Kopp (Nancy) of Marietta; grandsons, Dr. David P. Kopp, Brian J. Kopp, Richard L. Kopp; granddaughter, Julia E. Kopp; nieces, Janet Nehill, Carol Mullholand, Frances Small; nephews, Robert Benson, Daniel Wright and Robert Wright. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Chapel and Cultural Center at R.P.I., 2125 Burdett Ave. , Troy, NY at 11:00 am January 19 with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
