Obituary – Martha Elizabeth Johnston Johnston, Martha Elizabeth passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24 2019 at the age of 99. Martha was born February 5, 1920 on Butternut Farm in Huntingdon, Quebec Canada to Herbert and Elizabeth Cunningham. She obtained a teaching certificate in 1940 and taught grade school in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec prior to her marriage to the late Robert Johnston.

Martha and Bob made many moves throughout their long marriage before retiring to St. Louis in 1993. With each move Martha created a warm and loving home for her family. She always kept close ties to her siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She found joy in making new friends and in her hobbies including bridge and gardening. She and Bob loved to entertain and celebrate special occasions. Following the death of her husband in 2005 Martha became a resident of Bethesda Gardens in Kirkwood and greatly enjoyed the companionship of her many friends there.

She is survived by her daughter Liz Walker (Jim) and son Bill Johnston (Leslie Sennott), by grandchildren Matthew Walker (Sarah), Josh Walker (Mary Ellen), Tucker Johnston, Katherine Johnston, Victoria Johnston, and by great grandchildren Meghan, Colin, Owen, Jackson, Catherine and Lucy. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 10:00 am. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Grace Episcopal Church, ….
