Martha Jean Corrigan, 64, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. Martha was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 15, 1954 to the late John R. and Barbara (Barrett) Corrigan. While a student at Oak Hill Elementary School, Martha won the local spelling bee and represented Vanderburgh County at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC.

Martha graduated from University of Evansville, School of Nursing in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree. A lifetime Registered Nurse, she began in her career with Deaconess Hospital in 1976 and served there for more than 30 years.

Martha subsequently worked for several elder care facilities including University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she was employed until her passing. Martha was widely recognized and well respected throughout the medical community for her intelligence and compassionate service. She served countless patients in the Evansville community for over 40 years with enthusiasm and care.

Martha’s volunteer organizations include University of Evansville, voter registration and elections, and catholic church organizations. Martha was a loyal sister, cousin, friend and colleague, and will be missed dearly by all those who loved her. She was a great person with a big heart.

Martha is survived by her sister, Ann E. Corrigan; brother, Stephen Corrigan; sister-in-law, Kimberly Corrigan; nephews, Sean and Kyle Corrigan; and numerous aunts and cousins. Martha was preceded in death by her father (2009); mother (1971); and a brother, John B. Corrigan (1995). A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to John R., Barbara B., and John B. Corrigan.
