Obituary for Dr. Samuel L. Fitzsimmons Samuel L. Fitzsimmons M.D., 79, of Evansville, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home. He was born September 21, 1938 in Evansville to the late Dr. Elvin and Mildred (Nebeker) Fitzsimmons. Dr. Fitzsimmons attended Bosse High School, Indiana University and received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine.

He was an avid IU fan and often watched repeats of IU games. He was an Emergency Room physician of St. Mary’s for 35 years. While there, he began the paramedic service in Evansville in collaboration with St. Mary’s, Deaconess, and Welborn Hospitals.

Dr. Fitzsimmons was the director of the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s for many years and past president of the medical staff. He was also the medical director of Life Flight. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and member of St. Mary’s Church.

Sam enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the Duplicate Bridge Club. He also enjoyed traveling, working in his green house, and was a proud participant of Rock Steady Boxing. He is survived by his wife, Pat (Diehl) of 30 years; children, Meg Fitzsimmons of McCordsville, Indiana, Libby Raab of Palo Alto, California, Katie Kuester (Amy Niemeir), Chris Harlow (Patti), and Angie Martin all of Evansville, David (Donna) Harlow of Newburgh; grandchildren, Caroline, Michael, Eleanor, Henry, Jon, Sam, Lauren, Tara, Jessica, and Ashlyn; great grandsons, Cayden and Laykin; Sister, Jane May of Wilmington, North Carolina; niece, Vicki; nephew, Steven.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 South Hebron Evansville, Indiana 47714, where a Memorial Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 613 Cherry Street, Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Father Stephen Lintzenich, Father Benny Chacko and Father Ted Tempel officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
