Martin’s Obituary Bolton Landing — Martin Welthagen, 32, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, peacefully joined hands with our Heavenly father in the early hours of January 8, 2019. Born July 3, 1986, in Johannesburg, South Africa, Martin was the son of Steve and Denise Welthagen. Martin dreamt of his plans to build a life with his wife Laina, and was always ready for the next adventure with her.

They had plans to have children and travel to his home country, South Africa. He had an infinite love and energy for boating, braai, fishing, golfing, bowling, chess, and anything else he could enjoy with a friend or family member on any given day. Martin always expressed how lucky he and his friends were to live here, and how he was so blessed to be able to call Bolton his home.

He loved his wife, family, friends, and loved celebrating with them. Martin is survived by his loving wife, Marialaina Welthagen; his parents, Denise Welthagen, and Steve Welthagen; his brothers, Stephen, Ivan, Lionel and Gavin; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends. Calling hours will take place Wednesday, January 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Bolton. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the entire community who has come together in this time of need. Laina is truly humbled with the overwhelming love and support she, her family, and Martin’s family have received.
