Martin Thomas Budzius of Issaquah, WA passed away peacefully June 13th, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old. Marty was born on July 24th, 1934 in Hammond, IN, the son of Martin and Alice Budzius.

He grew up in Hammond, IN before moving to Seattle where he attended Cleveland Jr/Sr High School, graduating in 1952. Marty received his BA in Education from Central Washington and his M.A.Ed in Administration from Seattle University. Marty married Patricia J. Sherman on June 23, 1961.

Patricia proceeded him in death in 2017. He and Patricia moved to Issaquah in 1961, making this city their permanent home, raising their children and becoming fixtures of the Issaquah community. Marty resided in that same home they bought in 1963 until his passing.

Marty worked for the Issaquah School District from 1961 until the early 2000s. During his more than 50 years of employment, he spent time as a teacher, principal and a long-time announcer of high school sporting events. He truly was the “Voice of Issaquah”.

Marty was also a proud member of Issaquah Rotary. He lead, planned, supported and loved the annual Salmon Day’s Rotary Run, Fourth of July Parade, Challenge Races and countless other events and activities in the community. It was this dedication to the community that earned him the ‘2004 Issaquah Hall of Fame Award’.

He was also a member of the Issaquah Education Association, Chamber of Commerce and spent many years coaching youth Soccer, Baseball and Basketball in the community. Marty was a charter Member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Bellevue, WA where he continued to attend services until his passing. In his free-time he always enjoyed helping others and giving back to the community in which he became such a memorable part.

He loved spending time with his grandson’s and traveling to Sunriver with his family. He will be truly missed by all that knew him. Marty leaves behind his daughter Angelee Heimbigner (Barry) of North Bend, his son Chris Budzius (Mary Jo) of Issaquah and his three grandsons Cameron, Cole and Conner Heimbigner.

A celebration of Marty’s life will be held Wednesday July 18th at 11:00 am at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 4111 156th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA. A reception to follow at Tibbetts Creek Manor, 750 17th Ave. NW, Issaquah, WA 98027.
