David Winders Wood, 97, was called home to join his wife, Joan on June 17, 2018, Father’s Day. David passed at Overlake Hospital, Bellevue, WA due to surgical complications. Born February 21, 1921 in Seattle to Carl and Inez Wood, he was the youngest of four siblings.

His father was a professor of music at the University of Washington. Ironically, with no ability to read music, David was an accomplished pianist. His music brought great joy to those around him throughout his life.

David graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1939 and attended the University of Washington graduating with a BA in Economics and Business. He was a member of the SAE Fraternity. He met Joan at the UW while skiing Mt Rainier as college students.

They were married in 1943 at University Lutheran Church in Seattle. He started his accounting career with a major CPA firm in Seattle, earning his CPA license in 1945 and eventually establishing his own firm in the University District, retiring in 1980. The most enjoyable and rewarding activities for David over the years were those he served as a Lions Club Member.

He joined the University Lions Club in 1956. He served as secretary and most other offices. David was elected president of the club in 1964.

He and Joan traveled to International Conventions, in Japan, Mexico, Canada, and Hawaii. Other travels included Australia, New Zealand, touring throughout Europe, the South Pacific and many cruises. A highlight of their travels was attending the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.

As a hobby David took pride in woodworking and reupholstering projects. He enjoyed golfing, swimming, following the Seattle Symphony, the symphony in Honolulu and Sun City, AZ. David was also a season ticket holder to the University of Hawaii football and an avid fan of the Seattle Seahawks.

Upon retirement in 1980, David and Joan moved to Honolulu, living their dream. He retained his Lions membership in the University District Club. In 1991 after moving to Arizona, David transferred his membership to the Sun City West Pioneers Club.

He served as treasurer on and off for the next ten years. David earned the Melvin Jones award in 1999. David was a kind, honest and gentle soul, a devoted husband and father.

David was preceded in death by his wife Joan, of 72 years, in 2015, his daughter Melissa, in 2017, his brother Henry and his two sisters, Elizabeth Draper and Catherine McKenney. He is survived by his son, Randy (Joan) in Issaquah WA and four grandchildren; Daniel Tuttle and Jeanine Tuttle, Breanna Galacia-Wood (Jose) and Kirsten Weber (Patrick), five great-grandchildren; Danny, Doug and Brandon Tuttle, Jaxson Galacia-Wood and Lucille Weber and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks extended to the residents and staff at Overlake Terrace in Redmond for their genuine friendship and compassionate care.

At David’s request, there will be no service. Memorial gifts may be given to the Lions Club or the charity of your choice.
