Gene “Ward” Keller, of North Bend, WA, husband of Carol Keller, son of Harold and Eunice Keller, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the age of 86 years old in his home in North Bend, WA. He is the father of four children, Stephen, Sarah Bertagnole (deceased), Susan McCreadie, and Curtis, and has 22 grandchildren. Ward was born on July 13, 1931 in Tacoma, WA.

In 1942, his family moved to Snoqualmie Falls, WA, where his father was the director of the local YMCA. Growing up in Snoqualmie Falls, Ward developed a great love for the outdoors, and became a successful trapper, hunter, logger and woodsman. He loved all sports, and was a star athlete at Mount Si High School, from which he graduated in 1950.

Ward was an All-State football player at Mount Si, and received a full ride scholarship to play football for the University of Washington. After five years at the University of Washington, Ward started his own detective agency, Ward Keller Detective Bureau, which he ran for 25 years. Ward married Carol Anne Simpson of Tacoma, WA on December 19, 1965.

After marrying Carol, Ward and Carol joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have been active members of the Church ever since. In the mid-1960s, he started The Mayday Company, an education company training people to become private detectives with offices in several major US cities. Ward wrote and published all of the training materials for the company.

In 1980, Ward moved his family from Queen Anne in Seattle to North Bend, WA and retired from the private detective business. In North Bend, Ward developed real estate and focused all of his time and attention on his family. He was President of the Kiwanis Club in the Snoqualmie Valley, an active leader in the Boy Scouts of America, an avid racquetball player and was named North Bend Citizen of the Year in 2007, after leading the movement to save the old smokestack at the Weyerhaeuser plant in Snoqualmie, WA.

Ward authored two books: $50,000 a Year as a Private Detective (1965), and Vanished: A Lifestyle in Snoqualmie Valley (2007). Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday July 7 at the LDS chapel in North Bend, WA, 527 SW Mt Si Blvd. , North Bend, WA 98045.
