Memorial service for Marvin V. Gibson, 69, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2018 at Grace Community Church, Norfolk, Nebraska; Pastor Greg Priebe will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk Ave location, Norfolk, Nebraska. Marvin passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home.

Marvin Victor Gibson was born May 31, 1949 to Victor and Jeannette (Yoss) Gibson in Ames, Iowa. He grew up in Waterloo, Iowa and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1967. Marvin married Kathy Slater in 1968 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He attended the University of Northern Iowa and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Science with a teaching certificate in 1972. Marvin taught high school chemistry and science in Belle Plaine, Iowa. In 1979 he quit teaching and was hired as an Engineer for Dale Electronics/Vishay.

Marv and Kathy and their family resided in Norfolk from 1979 until her passing in January of 1995. Marvin and Maria Martinez were married October 5, 1996 in Norfolk. While at Dale’s, Marvin developed a resistor that was used in The Mars Exploration Rover Project.

Marvin worked as a Senior Process Engineer for Dale’s until he retired on March 4, 2014. Marvin was a world champion archer. He enjoyed fly fishing, bow hunting, archery, building traditional bows, and making musical instruments.

Marvin played his instruments by ear. Marvin belonged to the Norfolk Archery Club, the Writers Club, Toastmasters, the Parkinson’s Support Group, and the Nebraska Traditional Archers. Marvin is survived by his wife Maria of Norfolk; his two daughters, Karin (Jim) Andersen of Lincoln and Debora Gibson of Omaha; four stepchildren, Manuel Rosales of South Sioux City, Rebecca Rosales of Wellington, CO, Flor Rosales of Madison, and Systo (Marlee) Rosales of Yankton, SD; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters and a brother, Sharon Hampson, Nancy Gibson and David Gibson.
