Mary Ellen Sommers, age 98, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Grove at Oakleaf Village. The daughter of Jerome and Myrtle Laux, she was born April 12, 1920 in Toledo. She attended Gesu Catholic School and was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy.

She worked as a statistical typist for many years at her father’s car dealership, Laux Motor Sales. Mary Ellen was a very talented seamstress and loved all genres of music, especially organ and piano music. She was an excellent baker, most notably her apple pies and banana bread.

Her true joy was taking care of her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Sondra (Michael) Nortz; grandchildren, Jason (Allison), Timothy (Desiree), Kevin Nortz; great grandchildren, Cierra, Crosby and Elliot Nortz; sister, Donna Mae Laux and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt; siblings, Charlotte Nicholson, Gerald Laux and Leola Wade.

Friends may visit the family from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Monday July 30, 2018 at Christ the King Catholic Church 4100 Harvest Lane Toledo, OH 43623 where a funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital PO Box 1000 Dept 142 Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or Great Lakes Caring Hospice 3425 Executive Pkwy Ste.

206 Toledo, OH 43606. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at the Grove for their wonderful care of Mary Ellen.
