Mary M. (Yetman) Weir, 88, of Magnolia, MA, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 after a brief stay at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in South Boston, MA on June 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Bernard and Margaret (Flynn) Yetman. She grew up in her beloved South Boston and graduated from Nazareth High School and continued on to North Shore Community College where she received her Associates in Accounting.
She worked for Varian as an accounting specialist for many years. She was very much at home by the beach, from her childhood on N Street Beach in South Boston to Magnolia Beach. As she used to say, “I was born by the beach and settled by the beach!
” At home she enjoyed word games like scrabble, crossword puzzles and cryptograms. She had taken sewing classes at Es Aggie and made many outfits for her family. She was a seasoned traveler, having travelled with family and friends on trips to Ireland, Europe, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Montreal, Vancouver’s World’s Fair, Washington State as well as cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean Islands.
She was also an accomplished golfer, playing on the Varian team at Bass Rocks. She enjoyed reading, especially works of fiction and loved her Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins. Most of all she loved spending quality time with her grandchildren and family.
She was a loving woman, mother, and grandmother who will be missed, especially by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Maryanne Huggins and her husband Rick of Poulsbo, WA, Maureen Donahue and her husband Joe of Gloucester, MA, Patti Lemone and her husband Chris of Reading, MA and her son Rich Weir and his wife Phyllis of Ipswich, MA; a brother Bernard “Buddy” Yetman of Plymouth, MA; grandchildren Emily and Maggie Donahue, R.J. and Brandon Huggins, Eric Weir, Amanda (Weir) Intelisano and her husband Nick, and Elizabeth, Maddie and Morgan Lemone. She was predeceased by her sister Claire Barrett and her brothers William and James Yetman.
Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester on Thursday, December 27 from 4-7 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 28 at 12 noon in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St. Gloucester. Her burial will be held privately.
