Obituary for Melda Bridges Melda Olivine Lusk Bridges, 94, a native of West Virginia, passed away on August 31, 2018. She and her husband Jerry, resided in Houma for 40 yrs before moving to Thibodaux,LA. nine years ago.
A memorial visitation and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September15 , 2018 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 718 Jackson St. Thibodaux, LA from 2:00 pm until the mass at 3:00 pm. Father Stephen A. Shortess will be the priest officiant. She is survived by her son Gerald J. Bridges, Jr.; grandchildren, Gerald J. Bridges III, Charles Christian Bridges, and Katherine Grace Bridges.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald J. Bridges Sr.; and her parents, John and Georgia Lusk. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Melda was an educator in Terrebonne Parish Public School System for over 21 years, she retired from Montegut Middle School, where she taught her favorite subject 5th and 6th grade English.
Melda was also a talented artist and studied art with Dottie Billiu Hensche at Studio One in Gray, La. for several years. While there Melda engaged in art lessons from the impressionist artist Henry Hensche (1901 Chicago, IL – 1992 Gray, LA), who owned and taught at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown, MA.
She also belonged to the Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild where she would volunteer her talents. Her interest also included collecting Art and Antiques with her beloved husband, Jerry, throughout their 56 1/2 years of married life. They both enjoyed decorating and collecting Christmas Ornaments for their homes in Houma and Thibodaux with D. Leonard Hingle, Doug, and Billie Hall.
They also enjoyed having many friends and family over for seasonal parties. Special thanks extended to D. Leonard Hingle, a loving family friend for five decades. Also to Lucie T. Morvant for her caring friendship, love, and food she shared with Melda and Jerry.
