Obituary for Catherine Boudreaux Catherine “Chinka” Boudreaux, 72, a native and resident of Napoleonville, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018. She made this journey home peacefully with her husband and daughter at her side. A visitation will be held in her honor on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at St. Anne Catholic Church Napoleonville, Louisiana from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow in St. Anne Cemetery, Napoleonville, Louisiana.

Chinka is survived by her loving husband Achille Boudreaux; daughter, Dawn Boudreaux Gonzalez and husband Ernesto of Katy, TX; granddaughter, Emily Gonzalez; brother, Waldon LeBlanc, III and wife Betty Jane; sisters, Mary Carol Waites, Melanie Rhodes and husband Robert; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Waldon LeBlanc Jr. and Shirley Gaudin LeBlanc. On June 20, 1946, Catherine was born to Waldon and Shirley LeBlanc in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.

She was eventually given the nickname “Chinka” by her father, a modified version of the comic strip character of the time, the Powerful Catrinka. At seven years of age, during a normal tonsillectomy procedure, it was discovered that Chinka had a hemophilia disorder, what we now know to be Von Willebrands Disease. This is a genetic disorder caused by a missing clotting protein, which caused her bleeding to be uncontrollable, with no clotting abilities.

The fact that she survived this almost fatal complication was a miracle and established a protocol for not only her, but the entire LeBlanc family, discovering that they too, had this genetic disorder. In 1968, she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Achille Boudreaux. In 1969, by the grace of God, Chinka gave birth to their one and only child, a daughter, Dawn, on Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City Louisiana.

After being discharged from the Air Force, they moved back to Napoleonville. Achille worked at Dow Chemical for 45 years. Chinka worked at several community establishments but a majority of her work life at Assumption Bank and Trust (18 years).

She became well known by everyone in the community of Napoleonville and Assumption Parish. Chinka was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and recited the rosary daily. She was an advocate for the “green scapula” and the “miraculous medal”.

The green scapula has repeatedly proven to be a miraculous intercession in her time of need during her illness. She dedicated the rest of her life sharing the miraculous healing powers of the green scapula and would send green scapulas to anyone she heard that was ill or having health struggles. At the age of 72, Chinka succumbed to this disease after a courageous life-long battle due to the severity of her illness and multiple complications that arose.

The family would like to thank some special people who touched our lives over the last several years: Dr. Bolotte and his entire office and staff for providing many years of loving care; The staff of Stat Home Health. All staff who cared for Chinka were always, patient, kind, and caring. Acadian Ambulance, Napoleonville Volunteer Fire Department and all first responders who provided top notched care with compassion and respect.

The doctors and staff of Assumption Community Hospital. She considered everyone their extended family and Room 16 was the next best thing to being home. The doctors and staff at Tulane Medical Center.

They worked tirelessly with Tulane University and the Hemophilia Foundation to make sure Chinka was provided the best medicine to fight this disorder. Father Paul Gros, Father Joseph Vu and Father Juel Kandula for their spiritual guidance, providing last rites and overall support. All the anonymous blood donors who unknowingly and graciously extended her life and allowed us to have many more years with her.

All family, friends, and specifically KC Council 1099, for the thousands of prayers and well wishes over the last few years. Your support has overflowed our hearts with love and gratitude. Lastly, in lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating to the Hemophilia Foundation (www.
