Mike’s Obituary It is with great sadness that the family of Melvin J. “Mike” Rohe, age 84, announce his passing on February 26, 2019. Mike was born on March 2, 1934, in Appleton to the late Peter and Monica (Diedrich) Rohe. He resided in Menasha for 25 years before moving to Kaukauna, where he was united in marriage to Lois Vils.
After retiring from US Plywood Corporation, the couple moved to Big Lake in Gresham. Mike loved all sports and was very active in them from a young age. Mike graduated from St. Mary’s in 1952.
In 1992 he was inducted into St. Mary’s Sports Hall of Fame. After attending Regis College in Colorado, he then signed a contract to play basketball for the New York Olympians. After one season, he was drafted by the US Army to serve in Korea.
Mike was a coach in Gresham for Little League, Junior High, J.V. and Varsity High School Basketball. He also initiated the Gresham Booster Club and the Saturday morning basketball program for 4th – 6th grade. Mike was a much loved husband, father, son, brother and grandfather.
Family was important to Mike and he never missed an opportunity to get them together. He will be missed by all. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ.
Mike is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Lois E. (Vils) Rohe; sons, Mike (Ann) Rohe, Bill (Rachelle) Rohe; daughters, Victoria (Lee) Davids, Jodi Ihrcke and Karen (Mike) Rades; daughter-in-law, Susan (Duff) Rohe; grandchildren, Kimberly (Dustin) Moede, Lee (Amy) Davids II, Sarah Reiser, Mandy Rades, Cristi (Coady) Hutson, Joshua Rohe, Haley Rohe, Keegan Ihrcke, Mackenzi Ihrcke, Maya Ihrcke, Sam Collins, Ben Rohe, Devin Rohe, Natalie Rohe, Sophia Rohe and Zachary Rohe; great-grandchildren, Lee Davids III, Noah Davids, Mia Davids, Alison Moede, Cameron Moede and Malik Moede; along with numerous other relatives and friends. Mike was preceded in death by: his parents, Peter and Monica Rohe; his sister, Victoria Ann Rohe; a son, Patrick Rohe; in-laws, Bill and Stella Vils, Gene Hanson, Judy Swiontek, Jack and Barb Devalk, Clem Quella, Ron Biechler and Mick Devalk. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with military honors conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. The family extends a special thank you to Mike’s hospice nurse Kristy, as well as special friends and neighbors, Tammy and Clint, who are considered family.
