Mildred Louise Stowe Walton, 78, of 1412 F.C. Beverly Rd, Dry Fork, VA departed this life on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at UNC Health Care Chapel Hill after a decline in health for the past year and a half. Mildred was born in Danville, VA on March 14, 1941 a daughter of the late George Waller Stowe and Annie Holley Stowe. She was a graduate of Whitmell Farmlife School and Danville Technical Institute.

Early on Mildred worked as a receptionist for Dr. Viccellio. She later went to work for Dan River Mills in the knit division and rose to the position of supervisor in the shipping division. She worked for over 35 years at Dan River Mills until it closed.

Mildred loved being with her family and friends. She enjoyed Sunday lunches with family and the annual family fishing trip to the Outer Banks. She had a passion for playing cards and in her retirement dedicated each Tuesday and Sunday evening to playing cards with friends.

Mildred was known for her cooking and took immense pleasure in baking wedding cakes for numerous nieces and nephews throughout her life. Mildred was a lifelong active member of Whitmell United Methodist Church where she held numerous positions over the years. On March 4, 1958 at Whitmell Methodist Church, she married the love of her life, Thomas Wayne Walton to whom she remained married until her death.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Timothy Wayne Walton (Kathy); a sister, Betty Rigney; two brothers, James Stowe (Carol), Donnie Stowe (Cecilia); two grandchildren, Bethany Anne Walton (fiancé, Suraj Kulkarni), and Nathaniel Wayne Walton. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Toler. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel conducted by the Rev.

Wayne Moore. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30-3:00 PM at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
