Boyd William Adkerson, Jr, 74, of 5161 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 24, 2019 after being in declining health for the past eight years. Boyd was born in Danville, VA on December 5, 1944, a son to the late Boyed William Adkerson, Sr. and Becky Reynolds. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County where he was a graduate of the former Whitmell Farm Life High School.

His first job was at DuPont, in Martinsville, VA, where he worked for fifteen years before going to work for Boyd’s Logging Company, where he worked for ten years. He then went on to work for Corning, Inc., in Danville, for ten years before his last job working as a driver for Mabe Trucking in Eden, NC, for ten years, prior to his retirement. He was a member from childhood of the Hopewell United Methodist Church at Dry Fork, VA.

He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Boyd loved life, especially his family, his love for hunting and fishing, his baby girl, CoCo, and his late horse Flame, and dog Luke. On April 11, 1972 Boyd married his loving wife, Dianne Eanes Boyd who survives of the residence.

Boyd is also survived by two sons, Boyd W. Adkerson, III, of Dry Fork, VA, Scott Adkerson, (Kim) of Ringgold, VA, by two sisters, Wanda Hollie, (A.J.), Peggy Russell, (Michael), all of Dry Fork, VA, one brother, Richard Adkerson, (Tracey) of Dry Fork, VA, God Daughter, Meagan Holley, God son, Blake Seay, two step-grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by one niece, Nicole Gibson. Funeral Services for Boyd will be conducted on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Mike Hearp and the Reverend Steve Carlton.

Interment will follow in the Adkerson Family Cemetery, 5161 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, VA, with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends, on Thursday from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service and at other times they will be at the residence, 5161 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Adkerson family.
