Obituary for Ms Barry Simmons Queenan Barry Simmons Queenan, 74, passed away Tuesday, July 03, 2018. She was a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt and friend. A native of Texas, Ms. Queenan graduated in 1965 from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, with degrees in business and economics.

The family lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico until 1972, where she was on the board of AAUW and a member of the Junior League. Ms. Queenan graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Social Professions in 1975 with a master’s degree in Social Work. She was employed at the University Of Kentucky Medical Center.

While the family lived in Washington, DC, Ms. Queenan worked for Prince George’s County, Maryland, Health Department, as a social worker on the Home Health Care Team. Moving to Louisville in 1976, Ms. Queenan worked for Family and Children Agency (aka Family and Children’s Place). She was later a member and president of the Board of Directors.

Ms. Queenan was executive director of the Jefferson County Child Abuse Authority (aka Family and Children’s Place). In 1988 Ms. Queenan became Executive Director of the Louisville Bar Association and Foundation. While she was at the LBA she was a member of the Downtown Rotary and a member of the 1990-91 class of Leadership Louisville.

She was a commissioner on the Jefferson County and Metro Louisville Parking Authority of River City. After leaving the LBA, Ms. Queenan served as a trustee for the Olmsted Parks Conservancy. She was a commissioner on the Louisville Metro Planning Commission and was a director on the Board of the 1400 Willow Council.

Ms. Queenan will be remembered for her courage, generosity and dignity. Her son, Paul Edward Queenan, predeceased her. Survivors are her daughters, Theresa Q. Kidwell, Angela Q. Porter; son, Mark A. Queenan; grandchildren, Emily and Jason Kidwell, Paul Porter, Gavin and Grant Blocker; daughter-in-law, Holly Blocker Queenan; sons-in-law, Jim Porter and Jay Kidwell; a sister, Betsy Brown (Reeves); children’s father, Michael E. Queenan.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m, Sunday, July 8 2018 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews”. Funeral Mass will be held at 10a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 920 Newburg Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. The family requests that remembrances be made to St. Xavier High School endowed scholarship fund for Paul E. Queenan, 1609 Poplar Level Road, Louisville, KY 40217.
