Obituary for Nancy “Nan” Haygood A celebration of life for Nancy “Nan” Haygood, age 71 of Lindale, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Lindale, TX with Rev. Richard Luna officiating. Nan passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Home Place Hospice in Tyler, TX.

She was born in Lufkin, TX March 11, 1947. Graduated High School in 1965 in Mt. Pleasant, Received a B.A. from TAMU Commerce, taught school in Dallas and Grace Community, Tyler.

Married Ben Thomas Haygood of Lufkin in 1967. Two sons, Paul Thomas in Oregon and Ben David of New Jersey, married to Rachel, with daughter Harper. Moved to Tyler in 1982 and helped Tom open licensed family counseling practice.

Helped found East Texas Marriage Savers and served for 8 years coaching/ mentoring couples. Served with Tom at both Bethel Bible Church and Methodist churches. Served with the Emmaus Spiritual Renewal Movement in Tyler for 20 years.

Survived by husband, Tom, two sons, Ben, Paul. Brother, Wes and wife Diana of Mt. Pleasant, two sisters-in law, Karon Dawn of Holly Lake Ranch, and Susan Osburn of Minneapolis.

Nan was diagnosed with aggressive liver and lymph cancer in March, and after weeks of considering all treatment modalities, chose to be at home with Hospice with her family and friends. C.S. Lewis responded in a pub conversation, how long would you want to know (if you could) you have before crossing over. His response: six months would be perfect to set things in order, offer forgiveness and asking for forgiveness for wrongs committed.
