Nell S Abbott, February 14, 1927 — January 20, 2019

Nell S. Abbott, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on January 20, 2019. She was 92. A Memorial Service will be held on February 9, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta with Dr. James O. Speed officiating.

Nell was the wife of Joe M. Abbott (deceased) of Marietta, Georgia, and the mother of Katherine Abbott Womack (Stephen V. Womack), Joe M. Abbott Jr (Vaidehi Ramanathan Abbott), and Martin Edward Abbott (deceased) (Deborah Penland Abbott). She loved her 6 grandchildren and her 5 great-grandchildren and enjoyed planting seeds of love for reading and writing. Nell was a devoted and loving parent and a true example to her family of optimism, goodwill, and resilience.

She was a vibrant spirit–sweet-natured, gracious, and creative. Nell was an impassioned and prolific writer, having written poetry and fiction her entire life. She published numerous short stories and poems in various periodicals and several chapbooks, as well as a collection of her short stories and two novels.

She was looking forward to the release of her second novel when she passed away. Over the years, she also filled enough volumes of family journals to ensure that her descendants have reading material for the remainder of their lives as well. We will miss her, but we know we will find her in the pages of those journals and look forward to those new yet familiar encounters.
