YOUNGSTOWN—Services will be 9:45 am Monday, January 28 at the McCauley Funeral Home followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Dominic Church for M. Noreen McGiffin, 84, who passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital Boardman Campus Wednesday, January 23, surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Edward and Margaret McCauley Handel, she was born on April 5, 1934 and was a life- long resident of the Mahoning Valley. A graduate of Ursuline High School in 1952, she continued her academic education at Youngstown College, then later at Youngstown State University.
She met the love of her life Thomas McGiffin and they were married on July 4, 1956. Their love affair continued for 45 years until his death on August 3, 2001. Noreen was employed for over 20 years as office manager for Dermatology Associates a practice owned and operated by her brother Dr. Daniel Handel.
A passionate individual her entire life, she was a member of St. Dominic Parish, Catholic Daughters, Legion of Mary of St. Dominic’s, was a fixture with Youngstown Radio Reading, enjoyed her time with the Youngstown Garden Club and also spent many years as a volunteer at Hospice House. Her loving memory will forever be cherished by sons: Thomas (Debbie) McGiffin of Girard, Timothy (Lisa) McGiffin of Poland, Daniel McGiffin of Youngstown who was her caregiver for the last few years; daughters: Nora (Dennis) Page of Sevierville, Tenn. and Kathleen Longacre of Aurora, Ill.
, grandchildren: Tommy (Christine) Powell, Bridget Powell, Krystina (Chris) Thomas, Michael (Maura) McGiffin, Ryan McGiffin, and Madeline Longacre, granddaughter-in-law Alana Page great-grandchildren: Arthur, Madison, Anya, Anna, Bruce, Landon and Mario; a brother Dr. Daniel (Dolly) Handel; a sister Ann Gudas; and a sister-in-law Marie Handel. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Patrick, grandson Christopher Page, a brother Edward “Ted” Handel and a brother-in-law James Gudas. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, January 27, at McCauley Funeral Home from 2-5pm.
The family would like to thank the staff of the ICU Unit and the Pastoral Care at St. Elizabeth Hospital Boardman Campus for the care and compassion extended to their mom. They would also like to thank Father Melvin Rusnak for his pastoral presence and Drs. Hoffman and Barton for their care.
