Norman Alexander Rosentreter, 98, of Litchfield, IL, formerly of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Heritage Health, Litchfield, IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL, with a prayer service starting at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL. Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL will officiate.

Graveside Service and Military Rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. at New Calvary Cemetery, Carlinville, IL. Mr. Rosentreter was born on December 15, 1919, in Carlinville, IL, to the late Alexander P. and Victoria R. (Beasley) Rosentreter. He was a graduate of Carlinville High School, Carlnville, IL, and a Graduate of a Chicago Trade School.

He was the owner/operator of Rosentreter’s Insurance Agency, Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Rosentreter lived in Carlinville, IL til 1962 then later moved to Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Rosentreter had served in the Army during WWII as a Staff Sgt.

He had served in the Southern Philippines, then Japan Occupation. He married Mary V. Walton on February 22, 1941 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville, IL. She preceded him on February 15, 2007.

Mr. Rosentreter was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL; Knights of Columbus, Hillsboro, IL & Carlinville, IL; American Legion, Carlinville, IL; V.F.W., Hillsboro, IL; Hillsboro Country Club, Hillsboro, IL; & Macoupin Club. Mr. Rosentreter is survived by five children, Mary (husband Lyndal) Herschelman, Carlinville IL; Pamela Sutherland, Springfield, IL; Janet Rosentreter, Springfield, IL; Norma (husband Bill) Plowman, Hillsboro, IL; and Andrew (Wife Dawn) Rosentreter, Hillsboro, IL; Eight Grandchildren, Kathy Groves, Steve Herschelamn, Melanie Turner, Sam Faggetti, Heather Boucher, Kimberly Polus, Franki Ellis, and Dawn Rosentreter; Twelve Great-Grandchildren, Cody Kay, Marcus Herschelman, Austin Groves, Jenny Allison, Darian Turner, Marley Turner, Noah Polus, Alex Faggetti, Emmett Law, Kaydence Ellis, Kambrie Ellis, and Kasen Ellis and one sister, Julia M. Grace, Bloomington, IL. .

Along with his parents & wife, Mr. Rosentreter was preceded in death by two brothers; four sisters; one grandchild, Amy Herschelman; three great-grandchildren; and two son-in-laws, Lyndal Herschelman, and Martin Sutherland. Memorials may be given for masses or to St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL.
