Obituary for Norman Don Vernon On Monday, June 4, 2018, with his loving family at his bedside, Norman Don Vernon received his final reward of eternal life in heaven with his Lord Jesus Christ. He was a devout Catholic and had a great relationship with God. Norman was retired from Ford Motor Co. and was fortunate to have enjoyed a nice long retirement playing golf at Persimmon Ridge, weekly card games with some of his many friends, family time.
He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting with friends, and following the Kentucky Wildcats. He loved those “cats”. He was blessed with a wife, who after 52 years of marriage, he was still deeply in love with and always believed they were made for each other.
His son and daughter thought he was the greatest Dad in the world. He was always there for them in every way that a wonderful father should be. They often said he was the “Rock” of the family and valued his guidance and advice through the years.
Jeff, his son, thought of him as his best friend and Angie, his daughter, believed her Dad was a tremendous of strength that helped her to get through some of the most difficult times of her life. She was always comforted by knowing he would always know what to do. His two grandchildren were the light of his life.
He loved them dearly and was blessed to have been able to spend a lot of time with them. He had fun with them, laughed with them, and taught them valuable life lessons, comforted them when they hit a bump in the road, and always encouraged them to do their very best. Jack, his grandson, was his Main Man and Leah, his granddaughter, was his Hello Darlin girl.
Every child should have a Poppa like Jack and Leah had. Their lives will never be the same and they will miss him so very, very much, but he left them many love filled memories. Words simply cannot express how much his family already misses him and will miss him forever.
Losing a husband, father, grandfather and brother that loved his family like he did as Willie Nelson wrote in his latest song, “It’s not something you get over but it’s something you get through”. Jeff, his son, expressed the family’s feelings so well when he said “our loss is God’s gain because God definitely got one of the best. We will always love you and until we meet again Dad, enjoy heaven because you earned it”.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna; son, Jeffrey Vernon; daughter, Angela Clark (John); grandson, Jack Clark; granddaughter, Leah Clark; brother, Bob Vernon (Beverly) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends. A heartfelt thanks to the 5th floor ICU Nursing Staff at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. You supported us every step of the way and went above and beyond.
We love you all. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2018 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 212 Mt. Mercy Drive, PeWee Valley.
