Oliver’s Obituary PETERSTOWN, WV – Oliver Brackett Porterfield, age 86, of Peterstown, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born March 26, 1932, near Willow Bend, WV, he was the son of the late Bracket Oliver and Annie Main Porterfield. Oliver was a retired history and English teacher at Peterstown High School, and assistant superintendent and vocational school director of Monroe County schools.

He was also employed at Joyce Engineering after his school career. Additionally, he served as a public servant on the Monroe County Commission. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and discussing and arguing politics.

He attended the Peterstown United Methodist Church and the Bozoo Christian Church where he taught Sunday School and helped lead worship service, and he was most recently a member of the Ballard Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Ann; two sons, Charles Edwin and wife Denise, and Keith Oliver and wife Betsy; one daughter, Rhonda Lynn; four grandchildren, Kristen Frye, Jessica Mann, Stephanie Bowles, and Amy Oxley; five great grandchildren; and three brothers, John, William “Burke”, and Lee Porterfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2019, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Dave Spencer of Ballard Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Orchard Cemetery in Ballard, WV. Visitation for friends and family will be from 11:00 AM until time of services on Friday at the funeral home. Online guestbook can be signed or condolences may be sent to the family at www.
