Oscar J. Johnson departed this life on Saturday, March 3, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born March 30, 1935 to Oscar, Sr. and Ruby Lee Holcombe Johnson, who preceded him in death at an early age. He was cared for by his grandmother, Willie Johnson, whom he called Mama and loved dearly.

Early in life Oscar joined New True Light Baptist Church in Koenton, AL, where he served faithfully as long as his physical health permitted. Singing with the Joyful Wonders brought him much joy, and he could hit any key high or low. Oscar loved and married his beautiful wife of 61 years, Willie Mae Holcombe, and this union was blessed with seven children.

Having a strong work ethic and belief in taking care of his family, he retird as an operator at Ciba Geigy Chemical Plant in McIntosh, AL. He loved his community and helped people near and far by taking them to many places. Preceding him in death were: his parents, Oscar, Sr. and Ruby Lee Johnson; grandparents, Mattie H. Craig White, Marion Holcombe, and Elijah and Willie Johnson.

Left to forever cherish his precious memories is his loving and devoted wife: Willie Mae Johnson of Koenton, AL; his loving children: Sharon (Earnest) McGrew, Cullomburg, AL, Gwendolyn (Amos) Hill, Silas, AL, Linda (Stephen) Williams, and Oscar (Trina) Johnson, Millry, AL, Carol (Tyrone) Robinson, Waynesboro, MS, Kenneth (Tonede’la) Johnson, Tuscaloosa, AL, and Regina (Waddie) McGrew, Gilbertown, AL; twenty six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one sister: Teannna Johnson Webb, Prichard, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
