She was born January 18, 1971 in Chicago to Joseph and Agnes Piekarzcyk. Patty grew up in Wheaton and graduated from St. Francis High School.

She earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Sociology and Religious Studies from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. She married Tim Wielgos on September 15, 2007. Patty worked as a job coach for Little Friends.

As a job coach, Patty helped disabled adults learn the job skills necessary to work and provide independence and dignity to developmentally disabled adults. Her faith was an important part of her life; she worked extensively in her youth with The Happening in Christianity, an area Catholic youth retreat program. Later, she briefly taught religion at St. Francis High School before returning to Little Friends.

In 2002, she was diagnosed with Leukemia, and kicked its butt, then diagnosed with melanoma, and kicked its butt, then diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, and kicked its butt. All in all, Patty beat 5 different types of cancer and precancer over 17 years, and finally, after 17 years of health struggles and perseverance, she fought until the last of her strength gave out. Cancer is not what took her life; her heart simply was no longer strong enough to fight.

As she fought to free herself from a ventilator after a terrible bout of pneumonia and ancillary infections, her heart was no longer able to sustain her body. The Lord called her home to rest. Patty was a creative, kind person with a generous heart.

This showed in her personal and her professional life. Patty was a true fighter. Patty is survived by her husband, Timothy Wielgos of Wheaton, her son Ayden, her parents, Joseph and Agnes Piekarzcyk and one brother, Joseph T. (Cheryl) Piekarzcyk.
