Robert A. Wheatley passed away on January 17, 2019 at the age of 88 in Winfield, IL. Robert was born in Elwood, IN on September 30th, 1930 to the late Herbert and Angela (nee Brady) Wheatley. He married his life long partner, Joan (Sams) on August 16, 1952 in Elwood, IN.

Bob and Joan graduated from Indiana University in 1953 and started their married life in the service of the United States Army. First Lieutenant, Robert A. Wheatley, served as a Medical Detachment Commander. Robert enjoyed a successful career as a Distribution Manager (Corian) for DuPont, making lifelong friends throughout.

Robert retired from DuPont in 1995 allowing him to spend more time at his beloved Walloon Lake, Michigan house sailing and fishing with his family and friends. Robert enjoyed traveling the world with Joan, woodworking, leatherworking and serving his community. He was a guiding force and inspiration to all that he encountered.

He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Robert is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years Joan (nee Sams); beloved father of Mark (Colleen) Wheatley of Venice, FL, Kathy (Edward) Marusarz of Bossier City, LA and Craig (Diane) Wheatley of West Chicago, IL; cherished grandfather of Elaine, Matt & the late Brandon Wheatley; Steven & Joel Marusarz; Nathan, Leah & Brett Wheatley; adored great-grandfather of Hailey Wheatley. Dear brother to Carol Mattingly, John “Jack” (Karin) Wheatley, brother-in-law John (Sandie) Dehner and brother-in-law Mack (Anita) Sams.

Preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Angela (nee Brady) Wheatley; sisters Dorothy Wheatley, Judith “Judy” (the late Ted) Donahue, and Mary “Maribelle” (John) Dehner. Missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Eisner and his incredible team at Northwestern Medical Cancer Center in Warrenville, IL for their kindness and loving care.

It was deeply appreciated. Visitation at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Rd. Wheaton, IL on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
