Patricia Smith October 01, 1951 – December 21, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences Patricia Ann Smith was born on October 1, 1951 to the late Willie and Ardine Highsmith in Tarboro, North Carolina. She departed life on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 8:10 pm at home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was 67 years old.

Patricia was raised in Tarboro, NC with a large family, her grandmother, grandfather and cousins, until 1965 when she migrated to New York where she met and married Gene Smith, Sr. and began her family. Patricia was a very hard working person sometimes working three jobs at one time. In the early 80’s, Patricia worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for six years as an agent before she went to nursing school where she became a nurses assistant at a nursing home in Hempstead, New York for sixteen years from which she retired.

In 2006, she began working for Amtrak as a train attendant from which there too she retired after working there for ten years. Patricia was a calm and patient person who loved and spoiled her children and grandchildren when she could. Wherever she went her presence gave you a sense of security and there is no doubt she touched many hearts and will be missed dearly.

Patricia Smith is survived by: her two children, Gene “Spanky” Smith and Stephanie Smith; three grandchildren, Ryiquan Pelt, Markieth Smith and Alanah Smith; one great grandchild, Davon Smith; her two brothers, Leroy Highsmith and Jessie Hyman; her three aunts, Minnie Spivey, Hilda Highsmith and Mattie Cox; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
