Obituary for Paul Ellis Engle Paul Ellis Engle, age 79, Erwin, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2018 at The Waters of Johnson City while he was surrounded by his family. He was born in Erwin on April 27, 1939 and remained a lifelong resident of Erwin. Ellis was a son of the late Millard and Elizabeth Lingerfelt Engle.

He was a United States Army Veteran. Ellis retired from CSX after thirty-two years of service, where he worked as an Engineer. He was owner and operator of Southern Alignment until 2013.

Ellis loved to work and was known for the lasting friendships he made through business ventures and participation in community events. He was compassionate and generous toward all people and a member of Erwin Church of Christ. Ellis was an avid supporter of UCHS athletics and could always be found on the sidelines of the football and basketball games.

He loved farming, gardening and animals. Ellis had a great passion for all antiques and collecting old cars was one of his favorite hobbies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita Engle; two brothers: J.D. Engle and Larry Engle; one sister, Jeri Holloway; father-in-law, Charles Deyton.

A host of family members and friends will long remember Ellis including his wife, Terry; three sons: Eddie Engle, Erwin, Eric Engle and wife, Brandi, Chattanooga, Todd Bennett, Greeneville, SC; one daughter, Carol Whitson and husband, Ronnie, Erwin; his beloved brother, Tony Engle, Erwin; three sisters: Pauline Coberly and husband, Clarence, Felton, Delaware, Betty Bryant and Carolyn Tipton, both of Erwin; five grandchildren: Stephanie Woodby and husband, Josh, Anisha Foster and husband, Dakota, Isaiah and Jacob Bennett, Liam Engle; one great grandson, Rowyn Woodby; several nieces and nephews also survive. A graveside service celebrating the life of Ellis will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Minister Jeff Winters will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Engle, Eric Engle, Phil Erwin, Ronnie Whitson, Todd Bailey and Ray Castle. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Engle, Dwane Bailey, Kyle Bailey, Scott Bradford, Jerry King, Bill Banner and Mark Banner. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M. on Thursday.
