Phyllis Daphene Rankin Lintz, 95, of Sevierville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord in her heavenly home on July 7, 2018. She was born on the Rankin farm in Jefferson County, Tennessee, on April 26, 1923, the oldest of the six children of Sam Hull Rankin and Chlorice Bible Rankin. Phyllis attended Jefferson City schools and graduated from Jefferson City High School.

She graduated summa cum laude in piano in 1943 from Carson Newman College in Jefferson City. She married David O’ Neil Lintz… Read More » of Greeneville, TN in June 1943 and they were blessed with six children. Phyllis taught piano in Oak Ridge, TN and Raleigh, NC.

She received her master’s degree in English from Duke University in 1959. Phyllis and David moved to Ohio where she taught English for 33 years in Beavercreek Junior High and Senior High schools, retiring in 1985. Students fondly remember her for making them work hard.

She enjoyed piano, knitting, doll collecting, and sewing. Phyllis was an active member of First Baptist Church, Sevierville, TN and the Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher’s Organization. She is preceded in death by her husband, David O’ Neil Lintz; brother, Lyle Rankin, and sister, Ruth Rankin.

She is survived by her brothers, Taylor Rankin of Abilene, TX and Richard Rankin of White Pine, TN; sister, Frances Gardner of Memphis, TN; her six children, David Lintz, II (Gayle) of Waco, TX, Diane Orcutt of Sevierville, TN, Duane Lintz (Sharon) of Xenia, OH, Denise Climie (Bill) of Xenia, OH, Debra Mangeris (Peter) of Tulsa, OK, and Deidre Tharpe (Ted) of Sevierville, TN; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. We wish to thank the staff at Fort Sanders Sevier Nursing Home for their love and compassion. Memorials may be made to The Gideons International Processing Center, P.O. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10 AM Wednesday, July 11th with the funeral service to follow at 10 AM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Rev. Jerry Hyder will be officiating.

Interment to follow the service in Westview Cemetery, Jefferson City, TN. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Kevin Lintz, Jeremy Lintz, Eric Orcutt, Matthew Lintz, Neal Climie, Nate Climie, and Jared Tharpe. Online condolences may be made at www.
