Joseph P. Shannon, age 92, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy as Seaman 1st Class from 1943-1947. During WWII, he served aboard the USS Partridge, which was sunk in the English Chanel on June 11, 1944.

He was honorably discharged and returned to Boston, Massachusetts where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the Registry of Motor Vehicles for the next forty years. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents Charles Nutt and Mary Cusack, wives Helen Shannon and Anne Shannon, brother, Charles Brady, daughter Carol Gianetti, and sons Carl Ciampo and John Ciampo. He is survived by: Sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Fay Shannon, Daniel and Nancy Shannon, Charles Shannon, David Ciampo, David and Courtney Shannon, Jason Shannon, and Matthew Shannon. Daughters and sons-in-law: Theresa and Robert Gette, Laura and Daryl Golden, and Lisa Houser.

Sister: Catherine “Chickie” Griffin. As well as 15 grandchildren. Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Family and friends will meet 10:45 AM Monday and process to East Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery for an 11:30 AM graveside service officiated by Pastor Keith Vaughan.
