Phylliss C. Scarbrough, 72 years old, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Center for Hospice Care, South Bend. Phylliss was born on August 2, 1946 in South Bend to the late Claude Lawrence and Agnes M. (Whitmer) Gorby. She has remained a lifelong area resident.

On April 16, 1971 in North Liberty, Phylliss and Dale Wayne Scarbrough were united in marriage. Dale preceded her in death on May 4, 2017. One sister, Marie Gorby, also preceded her in death.

Phylliss is survived by her daughter, Katina Scarbrough of South Bend; step-daughter, Kimberly (Rod) McGowen of Goshen; three grandchildren, Erin Mikel, Chase Bake and Bradley Bake; three great-grandchildren, Tony, Cira, and Belle; sister, Karen S. (Richard) Peterson of North Liberty; two brothers, Claude L. Gorby, Jr. and Jerry L. Gorby, both of North Liberty; and sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Gail) Ross of South Bend and Jackie (Dave) Frazier of Wabash. Phylliss retired in 2014 after working eleven years at Target. Previously, she worked for six years as a secretary for Attorney Charles Leone and seven years as a secretary for Uniroyal Retirees.

Phyllis was a member of Pine Creek Church of the Brethren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 25075 Stanton Road, North Liberty, IN. Pastor Ruth Yoder will officiate.

Graveside services and burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Palmer Funeral Home, 202 N. Main Street, North Liberty and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Phylliss C. Scarbrough may be donated to the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 25075 Stanton Road, North Liberty, IN 46554.
