Poinciana was also known as “PJ and Punkin” to those who loved her. PJ was born to the late Bennie Lee and Millie Pat Jeffries on October 24,1945 in Alamance County.
She grew up in Glen Raven, North Carolina. She was raised in a Christian household and found Christ at a young age. She lived her life in the way that the Lord would have us to be.
Living this way, only allowed her works to speak for her. Her favorite passage in the Bible is Psalms 23. PJ graduated from Jordan Sellars Senior High School in 1965 and later received her Associates Degree from Alamance County Community College.
Through the years she worked as a secretary in the Burlington City School System , a secretary at Lucent Technologies (retired), and as a cashier at Walmart until her departure. She was loved by everyone and loved them back the same. She was a faithful member of Martin’s Chapel Baptist Church and just as faithful to her duties as an usher and senior choir member.
She took the most pride in being a family woman, and specifically being a Nana to her granddaughter, Riley “Curly Sue”. The untimely death of this mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend will leave an empty spot that she graced with her presence. Her loving memory and good works will continue to live forever.
Those who will forever cherish her memories are: her two children, Jon Van Hall, Jr. of the home and Candace D. Crandall (Gary Jr.) of Graham, NC. Her adorable grand daughter Riley Ann Crandall. Additional survivors are: sisters Nancy Jean Whitmore of Norwalk, Ct.
, Jessie Graves of Mebane, NC and Joanne Cobb Davis (Larry) of Elon, NC; a very special niece and caregiver, Armelia (Tinker Belle) Grier; special nephews Bradley and Benjamin Grier, and niece Tayler Grier, along with a host of nieces and nephews and cousins; many brothers and sisters in Christ and so many special friends, whom we won’t all name so as to not omit anyone.
