Raymond “Pete” Fenninger Herr, age 89 years, of Mount Joy, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, in Mike and Kay Book’s home. He was the husband of Miriam Werner Herr. Raymond and Miriam recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on May 14th.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Miriam are his sister, Elsie Mae Witmer, his son, Jere, his daughter, Kay Book, wife of Mike, two granddaughters, Rochelle Book and Chelsea Bright, wife of Jon. Born July 2, 1928, in Neffsville, PA, Raymond was the son of the late Tobias Fry Herr and Elsie Munson Fenninger Herr. He attended Manheim Township High School through the eighth grade after which he embarked on a 70-year career working initially in the farming industry and then operating his own garage business as an automobile mechanic and performing state vehicle inspections.

He will be fondly remembered by many as a kind and generous man who often helped those less fortunate by repairing their vehicles at minimal or no cost. Raymond was a member of the Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church and served for many years as a trustee giving oversight to the care of the cemetery. He was preceded in death by his five brothers, Harold, Robert, Edward, Fred and Norwood Herr; and a sister, Mary Bell.

A funeral service honoring Raymond’s life will be held at Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church, 1756 Mount Pleasant Road, Mount Joy, PA 17552 on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 3 PM. Family and friends will be received at the church before the service from 2 PM to 3 PM. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brethren in Christ World Missions and mailed to the church (address above).
