Elizabeth G. “Bette” Mummaw, 90, of Mennonite Home, Lancaster, formerly of Bruce Ave. , Mount Joy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Born in Quarryville, she was the daughter of the late S. Roland and Edith Mae (Barbour) Gochnauer.

Bette was the wife of the late Drew W. Mummaw who passed away May 18, 2010. Bette graduated from Quarryville High School class of 1945 and later Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. Bette started her nursing career at the former PA Water Company in Holtwood.

She moved on to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD and then worked for the U.S. government in Washington D.C. Bette finished her nursing career by substituting at Donegal School District. She was an active 50-year member of Glossbrenner United Methodist Church, Mount Joy. Bette was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Elizabethtown Chapter #407 and the Lancaster General Alumni Association.

Bette is survived by her children, Lisa M. Davis, Mechanicsburg, Mitchell, husband of Catherine Rudd Mummaw, Atlanta, GA, and Karen, wife of Paul Phipps, Reston, VA; and six grandchildren, Ashley, Rebecca, Danielle, Daniel, Andrew and Mikayla. She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Gochnauer. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service honoring Bette’s life at Ironville Cemetery, 4020 Holly Drive, Columbia on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 10 am.

It was Bette’s wish to have memorial contributions made to Glossbrenner U. M. Church, 713 Church St., Mount Joy, PA 17552.
