Obituary for Reita Mae Brooks Reita Mae Brooks, 85, of Beloit, WI, died peacefully Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Sun Valley Terrace, Beloit. She was born December 29, 1932 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Thomas and Enolia Stone. Reita was a 1951 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School.

Reita married Harold Brooks on a blazing hot July 5, 1953 in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Beloit. Harold predeceased her on August 16, 1995. Reita was formerly employed by Bonnie Bee and Tex’s Grocery.

She worked as the Food Service Director for the Beloit Turner School District and retired in 2001 after 34 years of service. Reita was a member of and enjoyed the many friendships created through TOPS, The Beloit Masterworks Choir, DAR, and Grinnell Hall. She was an active member of The Community of Christ Church in Beloit, having been ordained to the office of Deacon in 1989 and later to the office of Priest.

She especially enjoyed the preparations for communion Sundays. Reita’s greatest joys were her family and her faith. And she served both well.

As a young mother, she went back to school to learn how to decorate cakes for some extra family income. She soon used the skills she learned and began feeding hundreds, either for the school district or at Oak Hills Church Camp where she faithfully served. Her family often benefited from the “mistakes” she made while perfecting her craft.

Holiday celebrations were where she could really shine, as family and friends all went home supplied with enough leftovers for days. Reita is survived by and will be missed by her brother, Norbert Stone and sister, Arnola Marks, both of Beloit; her children, Tom (Lois) Brooks, Beloit, and Linda (Ronn) Ferrell, Madison; her grandchildren, Erinn (Katy Nilson) Brooks, Green Bay, WI, Wyatt (Lindsey) Brooks, Minneapolis, MN, and Brooke Ferrell, Houston, TX; and great-grandchildren, Eleanor and June Brooks-Nilson. She was predeceased by her parents, daughter Laura Wheatley and brother Ken Stone.

The family would like to thank Dr. Elize and the Staff of Beloit Health Systems Palliative Care, the Beloit Regional Hospice, her special companion Lori Lynn Haman Piper, the Care-Givers from Home Instead, Janesville, and the Staff of Sun Valley Terrace, Beloit, for the compassion and care given to Reita. The funeral service for Reita will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2018 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with High Priest Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, then from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday, in the funeral home. Memorials may be given in her name to Community of Christ Church. Upcoming Events Visitation 2018 JUN 7.
