Obituary for Rev. Walter Denver Allen Our loving, kind, and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and loyal friend, Reverend Walter Denver Allen went to his heavenly home to be His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. His legacy of loving and serving The Lord, his gentle and kind spirit will forever be missed and in the hearts of all who knew him.
His love for family, friends and his church are far greater than words can express. Walter served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He worked for Union Carbide as an Electrical Planner for many years.
He pastored several Churches in the West Virginia Churches of God Conference for more than 45 years. He received his ordination from the Allegheny Regional Conference of the Churches of God General Conference. His final years as Pastor was at South Charleston First Church of God.
He loved playing golf, being the best Papa to his granddaughters, and most of all, loved reading his Bible. He adored his children, and was the most wonderful father to them. He was married to his best friend and wife, Shelby, for 61 years.
He was born in Alum Creek in Lincoln County on September 23, 1932 to Homer Harrison Allen, and Lora Mae Hager. He was the youngest of eleven children which included James, Frank, Leighton, Sidney, Paul, Jack, Richard, Bill, Cline, and one sister, Goldie, all of which are deceased. He sang in The Allen Brothers Quartet with several of his brothers, traveling throughout the Tristate region sharing the gospel of Christ for many years.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Shelby, his children, Sandra Jane (deceased), son, Dr. Timothy Allen of Fort Worth, TX,, and daughter, Rebecca Pearson (Jeff) of Nashville, TN, his precious grandchildren, Benjamin (deceased), Abby Rae, and Jesse Grace, brother in law, Lee Asbury of Spartanburg, SC, sister in law Silvelva Sheets of Parkersburg, several nieces, nephews, and a host of family and dear friends. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, April 21, 2018 at South Charleston First Church of God, 5303 Ohio Street, South Charleston at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Medley officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Cunningham Memorial Park.
