Richard Allen”Dick” Nance, age 76, of Muncie, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on March 20, 1942 in Noblesville, to the late Robert and Denzil (Whetstone) Nance. He attended Wendell L. Willkie High School where he lettered in Football, Track, and Baseball despite being deaf since the age of 3.

Richard worked for Nance Construction for many years and retired in 1991. He enjoyed bowling and bowled in several leagues at Wells Lanes in Elwood. He was a member of the Professional Bowlers Association and A.B.C. Association.

He also enjoyed deer hunting and archery. Dick had resided at Waters Edge Village in Muncie since 2008 and quickly became a favorite of the staff and residents there. He was known as the “Bingo King”.

Dick is survived by a brother, Daniel Nance, a sister, Pamela Aldridge of Elkhorn, NE, 3 children, Sheila (Thomas) Edmonds of Muncie and Shelly (Shane) Stephenson of Muncie, and Richard Allen (Carol) Nance, Jr. of Wathena, KS, 16 grandchildren, Shaunacy Edmonds, Chasity Edmonds-Walker, Alyssa Edmonds, Kiera Edmonds, Timothy (Ashley Black) Bear, Adrian Yeary, Mellia Moery, Misha Moery, Madalyn Moery, Kelsey Nance, Shyenne Nance, Dustin Fritz, Joshua Fritz, Joshua Nance, Hunter L. Nance, and Hunter C. Nance, 14 great grandchildren, two great grandchildren on-the-way, and several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Nance and Denzil Nance, grandparents, Claude & Bertha Nance and Atha & Audry Whetstone, and a niece Amber Nance. Funeral service celebrating Dick’s life will be at 11:00 am Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with Pastor Scott Blaylock officiating.

Burial will follow in Carey Cemetery in Hamilton County. Visitation will be Friday, March 1, 2019, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Conservation Club or Muncie A.R.F. (Animal Rescue Fund) through the funeral Home.
