Richard’s Obituary Richard was a special soul. He came into this world On December 2nd, 1934, and left the world a better place than how he found it. On Monday February 11th, 2019 he left this world peacefully, having touched the lives of all those around him.

While our hearts may ache now, they will rejoice soon enough, knowing that he has found his place in the Kingdom of Heaven. Richard was a man of God, living his life according to the Bible, never asking for more than he needed, and always being content with whatever he had. He taught us all what hard work looked like, what true unwavering faith looked like, and most of all, what true unconditional love looked like.

Growing up in Norristown, he was the son of the late Everett and Ada (Hume) Rogers. Richard went to Jeffersonville Presbyterian church where he met his high school sweetheart Roberta (Wolfe) Rogers. They were married for 47 years, and would spend their summers selling parts at Hershey, Macungie, and Carlisle.

Richard always had a barn or garage where he would spend hours tinkering on cars before he would come back into the house for dinner. Richard loved the outdoors, which is no surprise as he was a Boy Scout. He hiked the Grand Canyon and even hiked the Appalachian Trail all the way from Maine to Pennsylvania with his cousin Albert Rogers.

Richard also had the opportunity to work as a mechanic for the United States Army, where he was stationed at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. He was awarded honorable discharge, and came back to Pennsylvania and worked for Rogers Mechanical for 40 years as a heating and air conditioning technician. No matter what was broken, he could fix it, or try and fix it with a lot of elbow grease.

In their free time, Richard and Roberta sold antique car parts through their business Continental Services. Lincolns’ were his passion, with his 54 Lincoln being his pride and joy. Richard was a member of the Lincoln Continental club, the Lincoln Road Race Club, the Lincoln Zephyr club and the AACA Car club.

Although Lincolns’ were his clear favorite, he always rooted for a Ford to win NASCAR. Ever since he saw his first NASCAR race in 1949, he was hooked. It didn’t matter where he was or what he was doing on a Sunday, if a NASCAR race was on, he was going to be home in time to watch it.

If Richard wasn’t watching a NASCAR race, he was watching a Western or the Hallmark channel. While watching TV was a leisure activity of his, so was telling stories. Shooter captivated us all with his stories (often we would get repeats but that just meant he loved us enough to tell us again).

Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him got to hear the story of Richard and Roberta’s love, with his nurses and doctors being no exception. While Richard passed at 84, we are sure that his legacy will live on through all of those he encountered, whether it be through his stories or how he touched each of our hearts. In addition to his lovely wife, he is survived by his brother James Rogers (Linda), his three step-children Steven Hartzell (Laura), Timothy Hartzell (Patricia), and Sandra Hanlon (John).

He has seven grandchildren: Steven, Michael, Adam, Samantha, Kevin, Megan, and Amber, with many great- grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Jeffersonville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 1921 W. Main Street, Norristown, 19403. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Samaritans Purse, www.
