Rita B. Thomas-Durfee January 4, 1944 June 29, 2018 Sierra Vista- Rita B. (Lewis) Thomas-Durfee, 74, of Sierra Vista passed away peacefully with her sons Robert and John by her bedside on Friday evening, June 29, 2018. Rita, daughter of the late George A. and Thyra A. (Frederickson) Lewis was born in Denver, Colorado on January 4, 1944. Rita grew up and resided in Montana and Minnesota for 37 years and in Sierra Vista for the past 15 years.

While living in Montana, Rita attended the Eastern Montana Billings Campus. As a resident in Sierra Vista she did volunteer work teaching GED Classes at the Casa Advocacy Academy and Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health Services Community Development New Turf Prevention Mentor Connection and received the Mentor Award of Excellence. She was a member of the Rickety Rockettes Dance Group and Sierra Vista Community Chorus.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Lynn Durfee and her brother Steven C. Lewis. She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Thomas and John R. Thomas (Kristie); a daughter, Jacqui Thomas; a brother, David D. Lewis; six grandchildren, Mariah, Rique, Miranda, Sophie, Bobby, and Brianna; six Great Grandchildren; and her loving companion of ten years, Terry Spurr. A Celebration of Life for Rita will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 1 to 3 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 South Highway 92 Sierra Vista.

Burial will be private. “Everything good about us came from her. Everything we know about how to be a good person came from her.

Everything we know about how to be the best parent came from her. She was our Base, our Rock, and our Source. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her”.
