Shirley Mae Thompson May 13, 1936 – September 9, 2018 Shirley Mae Thompson, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at her home in Hereford, Arizona. She was born in Rutherfordton, North Carolina to Tyree and Edith Mitchum on May 13, 1936 and was one of six siblings. Shirley will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.

As a friend to many, she was a bright and shining light in the community. She was a member XI Delta Kappa, The Sierra Vista Community Chorus and the Sierra Vista Women’s Club. She was also a former founding member of B Troop’s Women’s Auxiliary.

She owned Mary’s Boutique for many years. Shirley loved plants and gardening and helped make the world a better place through flowers. She is survived by her brother Foye Lee Mitchum, her son Larry Thompson, daughter Lavonda Thompson, granddaughters Erica Goffron (Mike), Ashton Weddell (Colt), and 5 great-grandchildren: Ava, Brooklyn, Brynlee Gofron and Gunnar and Heidi Weddell.

Funeral services will be held at Hatfield’s Funeral Home on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a ceremony at the Historical Post Cemetery on Ft. Huachuca. There will be a reception from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the T-MAC Hall.
