RITA D. GIEKER Rita Darlene Gieker, 59, of Quincy, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Monday (November 26, 2018) in Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. Born April 12, 1959 in Quincy, Rita was the daughter of Robert Gene and Barbara Lewis Miller. She married Daniel Gieker on July 14, 1984 in Camp Point, Illinois.

He survives. Rita loved the outdoors, tending to her flower garden and feeding the birds and squirrels. She was devoted to her family and will be remembered for her “big heart” who was alway willing to help anyone and everyone.

Rita had been employed at the Holiday Inn Holidome and then for many years as the lunchtime salad maker at Cassano’s Pizza until her retirement. Survivors include her husband, Daniel; a daughter, Melissa Davis (Andy) of Quincy; a grandson, Austin Davis of Quincy; her mother, Barbara Miller of Camp Point, IL; three sisters, Charlene Luncsford (Tom) of Quincy, Marlene Powell (Tony Deming) of Camp Point, IL and Jolene Miller of Camp Point, IL; three brothers in law, Mike Short (Teresa) of Kansas City, MO, Rob Gieker (Jamie Johnson) of Allerton, IL and Christopher Gieker (Monica) of Kansas City, MO; two sisters in law, Doris Tibbs (Todd) of Decatur, IL and Valerie Gieker of Liberty, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her father, Robert Gene Miller; maternal grandparents; Charles and Ruby Lewis; paternal grandparents, William and Lonnebelle Shaffer; two brothers in law, Gary Gieker and Kevin Gieker; and two sisters in law, Rosalyn Maas and Martha Cissna.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Ronald Graham officiating. Burial will be in Benville Cemetery, Benville, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Friday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Daniel Gieker to help with expenses.
