Robert A. Doan Sr., 88 of Ellis Twp passed away on May 26, 2018 at his home. Robert was born on June 24, 1929 in Pontiac, MI, the son of Arthur Doan and Anna (Gottesleben) Doan. He grew up in Auburn Heights and attended school at Avondale High School in Auburn Heights.

On September 6, 1986 he married Lina Stahl at the Indian River United Methodist Church. Robert proudly served our country as a Navy Machinist in a sub-tender ship. He was a Second Class Petty Officer.

Robert enjoyed bird watching, flowers, camping, hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. He was an avid sportsman and skilled carpenter who loved his family. Robert also a member of the Wolverine and Mackinaw American Legion Branches.

In Wolverine he served as the 19th District commander, the Fort-Zone commander, and the Finance Officer. Robert was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Indian River. Robert is survived by his wife Lina Doan, two children, two daughters-in-law, two step-children, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two siblings.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one infant child. Anyone wishing to make a charitable contribution in memory of Robert should consider the American Legion of Wolverine, Post 122. Services for Robert will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10 am at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
