Vernon (Vern) Joseph Kalchik, 94 of Petoskey, passed away on June 24, 2018 at McLaren Northern in Petoskey. Vern was born September 5, 1923 to Albert and Anna (Herman) Kalchik of Petoskey. Vern grew up and resided in Petoskey all of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Helen, daughter Jane, two brothers Donald Kalchik and Andy Kalchik of Petoskey. He is survived by two sisters Dorothy Brochu of Petoskey, Ruthie Detzler of Gaylord as well as one brother Bill Kalchik of Petoskey and many nieces and nephews. Vern was known as a man who loved to work with his hands.

Working on machinery as a master machinist, creator of small engines and most recently wood carving of domestic and exotic birds. Vern enjoyed his beloved cats both inside his home and outside, his dog “Jake”, the many birds visiting his feeder and the deer who would cross the river to “munch” on his bird feeders too. You could find him in his workshop most days from early morning to late afternoon smoking a Titan cigar, and a cat watching from his workbench carving his birds.

Vern will be missed by all who know him. A memorial gathering will be held at a future date. Arrangements are in the care of the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey.
