Obituary for Robert “Bob” D. Balser Robert “Bob” Balser, age 86, found peace with the Lord on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at Grady Memorial Hospital. He was a life-long resident of Delaware, Ohio. Bob was born on October 26, 1931.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mary Regina (Johnson) Balser, as well as 5 siblings: Carl, Henry “Bud,” and Everett Wayne “Red” Balser, Mary Alice Ritenour, and Maxine Galuzzo Stout. Bob was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edith “Edie” (Gutheil) Balser; children, Kurt (Michele) Balser of Batesville, Indiana and Kim (Keith) Thompson of Delaware; grandchildren Stephanie (Scott) Hardman, Janelle (Matthew) Gasaway, Luke (Ashley) Thompson, and Joseph and James Balser; great-grandchildren Alexandria and Connor Hardman, Dylan and Audrey Gasaway, and Ava Balser; as well as in-laws and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He will be dearly missed by all the family pets as well. Bob was a 1949 graduate of Willis High School. He proudly served his country, during the Korean War, in the United States Air Force’s Security Services, stationed in Tripoli, Libya from 1951-1954.

Bob was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for more than 60 years, where he served as both Deacon and Trustee. He was a former member of the Lion’s Club and SourcePoint, where he enjoyed playing pool with his “buddies”. Bob was a shoe salesman for 62 years, and was best known for working at, and later owning (1986-1994), Bauereis Shoes in Delaware.

He then continued his career at The Rugged Boot and later drove the employee shuttle buses at Grady Memorial Hospital before retiring. Bob enjoyed duck hunting, playing and watching golf, caring for his yard, cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State Buckeyes, and being his children and grandchildren’s #1 fan. He will surely be missed.

Visitation hours will be on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 1 – 5 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home, 32 W. Winter Street in Delaware. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018, beginning at 11 a.m, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 28 E. Central Avenue in Delaware. Burial, with full military honors, will immediately follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
