Robert “Bob”‘s Obituary Robert (Bob) N. Van Dorn, 74 of Deer Park, Texas, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Saturday May 25, 2019, surrounded by his wife and children. Bob was born in Munising Township, Michigan on August 6, 1944. Son of the late George and Leona (Larmour) Van Dorn.

He was the youngest of 9 siblings. Bob proudly served in the US Air Force as a medic. He was a founding member of the Linn-Street Leaches as a boy (but didn’t get into any ‘official’ trouble as we know it).

He enjoyed boxing, playing baseball, community softball and blooperball with his friends. He had a passion for fishing and would have ridden a motorcycle every day if we had let him. He wasn’t born in Texas, but he got here as quick as he could.

He proudly claimed he was a Texan from that point on, but his love stories of Michigan adventures never stopped. Bob was a master in warehousing and made a career working in the food and electrical wholesale market setting up warehouses for smooth distribution operations. Bob worked as a salesman for the food service but quickly moved up to the management level managing field sales personnel.

In retirement, Bob enjoyed maintaining the Drill Field for the Deer Park Fire Department. Bob spent many summers camping and tubing the Guadalupe River. His bright smile could often be found in the stands at his children’s and grandchildren’s baseball games, drill team performances and volleyball matches.

Bob was a big Astros fan, and like many of us, experienced the joy of the team win their first World Series in 2017. Bob leaves behind his wife Sandi, children Lori (Greg) Bridges, Anthony, John, and Jaclyn (Lex) Van Dorn: grandchildren Shane (Stacey), Shalon (Ryan Pisseri) and Shelby Bridges, Adam and Tristin Van Dorn: great-grandchildren McKayla, Aaron, Jacob and Easton: Brother Ed and sister Shirley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army or St. Jude in Bob’s honor.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date with family in Michigan.
