Obituary for Robert “Bob” Rigney Sr. Robert Lee Rigney Sr, or better known as “Bob” 95, of Danville VA. died Friday, November 2, 2018 at Heritage Hall in Blacksburg, Virginia. Mr. Rigney was born in Danville, VA on February 14, 1923, son of the late William Rigney and the late Sarah Jefferson Rigney.
Bob attended Danville Public Schools and attended Moselely UMC where he met his future wife Margie Ann Shelton Rigney who he married on April 11, 1952. He joined the Air Force and was stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Moving back to Danville he and his wife transferred membership to Trinity UMC where he was a founding member and very active in the church serving as the stew master for 30 years, chairman of Finance and Trustees, was in charge of the kitchen renovation, drove the van on many of the church’s trips and served on the official board for a good many years.
He was a member of the Conerly Sunday School class. Bob remembers all the former pastors and one in particular, Arthur Cooley. Cooley’s first Sunday there were two pairs of shoes by the pulpit, one pair for the pastor that left and one for the one here now, don’t forget which one one is serving you now.
Bob traveled as a Regional Manufacturer Distributor for hardware tools in the States of NC, SC, and VA. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Shriners. Survivors include two daughter, Mildred R. Johnson and husband Rick of Blacksburg VA.
and Bonta “Bonnie” Byrd and husband Mark of Coats NC. Four Grandchildren Lauren Doran, Sarah Ann McDowell, Caitlin Marjorie Johnson, Carrigan Teresa Johnson and one Great Grandchildren Sydney Louise Doran. Mr. Rigney had several nieces and nephews In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his son, Robert Lee Rigney, Jr. and three sisters and two brothers Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday November 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity UMC in Danville VA.
with the Rev. Bobbie Henley officiating. Interment will be private.
