Robert G. Bauters November 17, 1930-September 5, 2018 Mishawaka-Robert G. Bauters, 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 surrounded by family at the Center for Hospice Care in South Bend. Robert was born on November 17, 1930 in Mishawaka to the late Frederick and Celina (Van Wassenhove) Bauters. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1948.

On November 26, 1953 in St. Bavo Catholic Church, he married the former Barbara Graveel. They lived and raised their family in the house he built in Mishawaka shortly after their marriage. Surviving are his loving wife of almost 65 years, Barbara; son, Donald (Debra) Bauters of Mishawaka; daughters, Jeanine (Michael) De Geeter of Warsaw, IN, Catherine (Thomas) Vanden Boom of Libertyville, IL, Ann (Jeff) Frantz of Goshen, Marilyn Troyer of Mishawaka and Karen (David) Mischler of Mishawaka; 23 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren (plus 3 on the way); sister, Agnes Mc Caffery of Mishawaka and brother, Joseph Bauters of South Bend.

Robert was a proud member of the I.B.E.W. Local #153 and retired in 1992. Prior to his retirement, he served as a superintendent for numerous major electrical projects in the area.

Robert was the ultimate handyman and in his free time was a master gardener and avid reader. The center of his life was his large family and he found great joy as a beloved grandfather in attending the many events of his 23 grandchildren. He also established several family traditions including cabin vacations, Belgian sausage-making, and an annual corn roast.

He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church and the BK Club in Mishawaka. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 9 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka.

Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum, Mishawaka. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name be made to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544. To leave the family an online condolence, please visit www.
