Obituary for Robert L. “Rob” Wilson Mr. Robert “Rob” L. Wilson, age 77, of the Elk Garden section of Lebanon, Virginia, formerly of Council, Virginia, passed away Monday (February 11, 2019) at his home in Council. Born June 22, 1941 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late John and Bessie Bostic Wilson. A lifelong resident of the southwest Virginia area, he was of the Baptist faith.
A veteran of the United States Army, he had served during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 6875. He had formerly been employed as an electrician at Lambert Fork Coal and had worked at New Peoples Bank until his retirement. Having a strong work ethic and a friendly nature, he had a smile and a lending hand for anyone in need.
He enjoyed woodworking, but nothing brought him joy as much as spending time with his family and spoiling his four precious grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Wilson, Jr. and wife, Velma, and Burt Wilson, three sisters, Arlene Thompson and husband, Grover, Margaret Smith and husband, Lester, and Georgia Blanche Wilson, brother-in-law, Al Watts, and two nephews, Gary Smith and Doug Thompson. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-three years, Sandy Wilson of the home; two daughters, Paula Wilson and Shelly Combs and husband, Gary all of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Ryann Honaker, Garin Combs, Hayden Combs, and Kinsley Combs; two brothers, Donald Wilson and wife, Theresa of Council, Jim Wilson and wife, Alice of Chesapeake, Virginia; three sisters, Lois Johnson and husband, Ronnie of Council, Bettye Mills and husband, Ray of Mt.
Vernon, Ohio, and Luann Watts of Rensselear, New York; special cousins, Letha Wilson and Angie Combs; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating.
Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be nephews and Waylon Hart.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Johnson, Ray Mills, John David Hale, Kenneth Hart, J.D. Nuckles, and his co-workers and friends from New Peoples Bank. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 5:00 PM Wednesday. Online condolences may be made at www.
