Robert “Tense” Whitehead, age 85, of Hampton, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Robert was born in Hampton, Tennessee to the late Garfield and Ethel Lacy Whitehead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence Whitehead, Jack Whitehead, William Whitehead and J.D. Whitehead; and one sister, Ivalee Whitehead.

Robert was a farmer and loved gardening, being outdoors, working and loved farming. Those left to cherish his memory include two brothers, Jessie J. Whitehead and wife Patsy, of Hampton and Richard Whitehead and wife Erlene, of Stoney Creek in Elizabethton; two sisters-in-law, Sue Whitehead, of Butler, TN and Ellen Whitehead, of PA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Robert “Tense” Whitehead will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Ronnie Campbell, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday or at the residence of his brother at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Sunday, February 3, 2019 in the Bennett Cemetery on Dennis Cove Road in Hampton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 AM on Sunday.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton for the love and care shown to Robert during his illness.
